there’s a blubird in my heart that wants

One of the most truthful and influential writers and poets of his time, Charles Bukowski focused on projecting the horrific facts of American society through an autobiographical standpoint. The University of Iowa’s Humanities and Science departments organized an International Poetry Symposium to commemorate this powerful poetry.
As a personal project, I created advertisement posters for this event. These posters illustrate one of the poet’s most famous works the bluebird, a metaphorical piece about the burdens of the his life represented by the innnocence of a bluebird in his heart. In the background of the first poster is a dark alley, a familiar home for the Bukowski during his years drinking. The poet’s tradition of documenting his pieces on a typewriter - and only in lower case - further inspires the type treatment.
